Truth? All my life, the idea of being a writer terrified me because — at some point — writers usually SPEAK on what they write about. And public speaking? Well, let’s just say as someone who blushes at the drop of a hat, it was never really my thing.
And then God said, “Oh, you’re a planner? Well, I am the Master Planner, so you? You’re speaking, boo.”
So here I am. Speaking.
I’m kind of quirky — kind of an “awko-taco” — but I LOVE the idea of getting up in front of a group of people (women specifically) and inviting them to find the disheveled charm of everyday life.
I have experience speaking on college campuses (anywhere from an FCA meeting to women’s small groups and conferences), to church youth groups and young adult ministries.
What can you expect? Well, the details are up in the air — I have a list of topics I’ve spoken on before (see below), but can also accept requests if given in advance. At the very worst, you’ll get a chuckle or two at the realization that it’s okay to not take yourself too seriously and that when life happens, sometimes the best thing we can do is laugh.
Some topics I’ve spoken on:
- Forgiveness is Hard (An honest but Biblical look at forgiveness, letting go and what it means for you and me.)
- This Old House (What does it really mean to be made new by Jesus — and can He really forgive me for That?)
- Charlotte is my Egypt, but Jesus is my King (As found in the story of Joseph, proof of the most peace-giving statement I’ve ever heard: God wants to get you where God wants you, more than you want to get there.)
- I am the Worst of Them: A Testimony (A brief walk through of my testimony and faith journey — one riddled with the messiest kinds of sin, but one wrecked with the sweetest kind of redemption.)
